New Employment Court Judge appointed

Judge Joanna Holden was sworn in as a permanent Judge of the Employment Court on 8 September 2017 at a special sitting held in Wellington.

Judge Holden will be based in Auckland.

Employment Court Judge forthcoming retirement and Acting Judge appointment

Judge ME Perkins will be retiring as a Judge of the Employment Court later this year, on 27 December 2017.

Judge Perkins has been appointed an Acting Judge of the Employment Court for an initial term of 12 months, commencing on 28 December 2017.

Judge Perkins will continue to be based in Auckland.

Acting Warrant

Judge RJ McIlraith has been appointed an Acting Judge of the Employment Court for a two-year period, commencing on 21 August 2017.

Judge McIlraith is a District Court Judge based in Manukau.  He will sit in the Employment Court if and when required, and following consultation between the Chief Judge of the Employment Court and the Chief Judge of the District Court.

New Chief Employment Court Judge appointed

Judge Christina Inglis was appointed Chief Judge of the Employment Court on 10 July 2017, following the retirement of Chief Judge Colgan on 7 July 2017.

Chief Judge Christina Inglis will be based in Wellington.

A Valedictory Sitting of the Employment Court to mark the retirement of Chief Judge Colgan was held on 7 July 2017 in Auckland.
